Welcome to my blog Dance Trendz!

I will be using this blog to explore to how the dance industry has changed over the last several years. Dance has truly become a mainstream art form, allowing dancers to become “celebrities” like singers have with the music industry. I have been dancing now for 17 years (if you count my 3-year old ballet and tap classes). Spending the majority of my after school years at a studio, and many weekends at dance conventions and competitions, dance has always been an important aspect of life for me. I have always appreciated this beautiful art form. However, it is exciting to watch the rest of America fall in love with dance as well. Some of the most popular reality shows on television center around dancing, and have helped dancers become famous in their own right. The dance industry is becoming much more profitable, and has also helped even the smallest dance studios become more successful. I hope you enjoy reading my perspective on this evolution of industry. Feel free to comment, I would love to hear what others think, both dancers and those that just enjoy watching.

  1. Love your blog, good work! =) You should try out for SYTYCD, just saying! I agree that the dance industry has progressed throughout the years, escpecially on television and even the big screen! True raw dance talent has grown on so many levels. Now-a-days, especially in America (in my opinion), dance has evolved into many different techniques and styles. Ballet seems to be put on the back burner, whereas modern and contemporary styles seem to be most desired and popular. I remember dancing at Tonie's when those classes weren't even offered lol! The reality series that you have mentioned are some of my favorites to watch, also ABDC. I love how a ballet dancer can transform into a hip hop artist and also perform contemporary routines. You're right when you mentioned that SYTYCD showcases a well rounded dancer in all aspects. Why should a dancer limit themselves to just one technique? Once the structure is comprehended, then a dancer's ability is limitless as to the styles they can acheive. Also group performances have evloved as well. Like the show, ABDC. I love seeing the stunts that a dance group can perform with such creative choreography, even when it's out of their comfort zone. The challenges that the groups are faced with are sometimes just crazy, and the way they produce the routine is so creative. I truely believe creativity is the key to a great routine. And the more creative dances are, the more popularity the dance receives, in my opinion. Having the talent to extend a certain move is one thing, but being able to subject that move where it's least expected is another. Just some feedback for you, I know it's a bit long! But keep up the blog =)

  2. First of all, thank you SO much for saying I should try out for SYTCYD, that's a huge compliment! Also, I completely agree with everything you said. I have not watched ABDC completely through a season but I think since we have similar interests it would be a great show for me to start watching. I also wanted to comment on your mention about Ballet. Even though many people find ballet boring and unimportant, that is something that truly has bothered me with regard to the direction of the dance industry. As a dancer, I feel that in order to truly be well rounded, you must have technique and control of your body. When it comes to today's dance world, I think ballet has been pushed to the back burner. This is a topic I want to blog about in the future! I will be updating my blog frequently so stay tuned!
    Thanks again
